How Software Industry reacting to the Russia-Ukraine war
This blog is not a usual tech python blog as we are not living in the usual times. On Thursday, February 24, Russia started a full-scale attack on Ukraine. This event has sparked Europe’s greatest war since World War II (WW2) and is the continent’s largest geopolitical event since the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1990–1991. In this blog, I will try to cover the timeline of events that happened during the war and how the Software Industry is reacting to the ongoing crisis.
Feb. 24
Russia launches its attack from three directions: Belarus in the north, the Donbas region in the east, and Crimea, in the south. The U.S. and European Union announced sanctions targeting Russia’s financial sector, technology imports and oligarchs. Russian stocks and the ruble plunge. Moscow’s stock exchange plummets by 45% after the United States announces sanctions on Russian banks.
Feb. 25
Twitter temporarily paused ads in Ukraine and Russia as a way to elevate “critical public safety information.”
Meta prohibited Russian state media from running ads or monetizing anywhere globally.
Feb. 28
Netflix has stated that it will not be adding any Russian channels to its platform.
